Toronto Otaku Meet Up Part 2

The meet up that we had on Friday was fun and awesome. I got to meet up GNDynames (finally XD) and some new otaku. It would be nice if ETERNAL was there too but that’s ok, we just need to find a way to drag ETERNAL out of his room next time ^^

Despite the success of the meet-up , I was little bit ticked off with the lack of attendance even though there were 41 confirmed guests on the facebook event page. I will start my ranting with a quote what RSVP means:

R.S.V.P. stands for a French phrase, “répondez, s’il vous plaît,” which means “please reply.”

Thus, there were 41 people that replied to the invitation but only 10 people were at the meet-up so it’s barely 1/4 of the total guests. Granted this was not a formal invitation like a wedding but when you selected ‘Attending’ on the facebook page, you were expected to be there.

Please be considerate to the organizer (Rin) and to the restaurant itself because he had to reserve for 41 people and after one hour from the designated time, he had to tell the restaurant that we didn’t need the rest of 30 seats.

Quoted from someone on facebook who made a good point:

At least be like me and cancel a few days in advance! The restaurants will be expecting the confirmed amount and will turn away potential customers so you all can have a seat.

Not having a full reservation is not only is embarrassing for people explaining it to the staff (see Justin and Ron’s comments below) but also a big hit to those working in the restaurant’s income.

Please, have some consideration and honour your word.. Now, with that rant out of the way.. How did it actually go? I wish I could have made it.

Anyways, please forgive me for ranting a little bit. Even though it’s only 10 people, I think whoever was there still got to enjoy this event especially when we all got a prize (courtesy of ACG NA) due to lack of attendance.

The best price was Kagami neno WonFes edition and the lucky person who got it was Litokid. The one that I really wanted was a mug with 2 girls which Trixoptics got it. Lucky him >.>. I am so using this to work if I got the coffee mug.

As for myself, I got a tottee bag with anime characters from multiple series ^^

As usual on every meet-up, we went up for some bowling which I didn’t go so I wonder who won this time. I bet Trixoptics kicked everyone butts in bowling ^^.

Another Toronto Otaku Meet Next Friday

Another Toronto Otaku Meet-up will be held next week Friday and this time, there will be more people. At the time I am writting this post, there are already 23 confirmed guests compare to 7 people for the first meet ^^;;. Next week event will be held at Thee Asian Kitchen which is located on here.

Details are as follows (copied and pasted directly from facebook ):

ACG NA’s Otaku Representative Rin is hosting an Otaku Meet on Feb 20th. The party is a fun chance to meet other otakus or fans of anime, comics and games or people who share the same interest as you. It’s also a great chance to make new friends and learn new stuff of the anime culture and the Japan culture. The meet is to bring together people with similar interest and just have fun and talk about anime, comics, and gaming.

Participants can expect of the following:
- $26 all inclusive all you can eat buffet style food and non-alcoholic drinks
- Optional bowling starts at 10pm $5 per game/ per person + $3 for shoes rental. The bowling price may vary for how many games you want to play. (Pay upon entry)
- Fun chats of anime, comic and gaming.
- Lucky Draws!

Limited seats:
- Seating is limited to a maximum 40 people.
- In order to ensure no double booking will occur, this page is the ONLY place you can reserve yourself a seat.
- One MUST provide accurate RSVP to ensure seating.

* The number of people will help us decide on future meets and locations. This also helps on us to decide if we will hold another meet in the future.

** COSPLAY IS OKAY for this event, but absolutely no weapons of any kind!

Otaku Bloggers Meet-Up Part 2

Len-Vesper, a fellow otaku blogger, came to Toronto on a business trip for few days. I think it becomes our tradition to go out for dinner then bowling right after for our otaku meet up. Check out his adventure with Rin in Toronto on his blog. It was a small meet-up since it’s only 4 people: Me, Rin, Len and Yumyu from Trixoptics but we all had fun ^^. I invited Yumyu to come along since he was really interested in the previous blogger meet up but couldn’t make it.

It’s bowling time.

Len had to change his nickname because it couldn’t accommodate his otakuness ^^;;. He tried to pu vesperdesudesu but failled.

Not sure why buy I always went first.

Yumyu in action. I believe in his previous life, he is a pro-bowler.

GSC mascot that Len got from Danny when he went to Japan kept us company through out our meet-up.

I did pretty bad in the last round and Gutter was my special ^^;;

After bowling, we went to Tim Horton just to chill and chit-chat but we had to call it short because Len had to catch the subway to go back to his hotel since the last subway leaves at 1:30 from Finch station.

All in all, it was meeting Len and Yumyu. Hope we can do it again in the near future ^^. Len and Rin has probably more pictures about the meet-up so check their blog ^^.

Toronto Bloggers Meet-Up

Thanks to Rin for organizing this event despite his busy schedule with school and ACG Na for sponsoring this event. This event is pretty much inspired by Danny Choo who has held several bloggers meet up such as this one.

The purpose is to meet up with fellow otakus, gamers, anime fans, etc etc and make some new friends who similar interests. along the way but the most important thing is just to chill and have fun in general.

The meet up will be held on Friday, December 19th at Hot Pot King and Club 300 Bowl. The place is located at 146 Old Kennedy Road, Markham, Ontario. The event will start at 8:00 pm to 10pm (or longer depending on you are going to play bowling afterward or not).

This event has a limited seating of 40 so if you are planning to attend, please rsvp as soon as possible before December 12th at ACG NA Facebook event page.

So far the bloggers/otaku that will come for sure are myself, Rin, GNdynames, litokid , ETERNAL and Fumika.
