Octavia at Avalon Castle

This is my first photo shoot since…… a while ago I guess ^^;;. Fall/Winter is coming and the weather is getting chillier everyday so I thought I would have an outdoor photo shoot for the last time. My last outdoor photo shoot was at Niagara Falls where I went there with my parents and I would love to go there for another photo shoot session. For Octavia, I chose Casaloma castle as my setting since a castle fits her image/clothing perfectly.

Fellow readers probably can tell that I am little bit rusty since I haven’t done any photo shoots for the last 4-5 months. Outdoor photo shoot would be great to get things going again.

One thing that I love about this figure is that she can stand without using her base so she is perfect for outdoor photo shoot because having her base would be weird in outdoor environment.

For this session, I only use her unsheathed sword because I just like her pose more ^^. Anime girls with a sword are the best thing ever ^^

If I can be nit-picking with this figure, her paint job is mediocre and there are quite imperfection on her clothing especially on her shoulder. More over, don’t even get me started on her face as she looks different than the one in the anime. Since it’s Kotobukiya, I didn’t expect much from this figure. I bought because it’s Octavia and I just love anime girls with swords.

You can see the castle as her background and it suits her perfectly. This one would be even better if it’s closer but I like the black-white version of this one.

My pre-ordered finally arrived and 2 of them came during the weekend. Two thumbs up for Canada Post for delivering it on weekends although the postman looked grumpy (because he had to work on the weekend I guess).

Shiki looks awesome and beatiful. The details on her kimono is just amazing; I really can’t wait to do a photo shoot with her ^_^.

Meanwhile, Octavia looks great too and I think Kotobukiya did a good job on this one (at least that’s what it looks from outside the box).

As for Asa Shigure, Alter’s quality should not be questioned ^^.

Blanc Neige 1/8 PVC by Kotobukiya

Toronto is having an early winter this year and we just had our first snow fall couple days ago. On a quite chilly Saturday morning (-8 C btw), I was suddenly struck with a brilliant idea to do a photoshoot so I grabbed my jacket and went to my backyard which is still covered with snow. Actually I had this idea in mind for a long time and I think Blowfish suggested to take my Akatsuki Mishiro figure during winter.

Blanc Neige was the chosen one for my first winter photoshoot. I got this figure like back in early October and had not done any photoshoot. I was being lazy ^_^ and all. It might sound crazy to take pictures in a cold weather but I had a lot of fun. I was laying down on the snow, rolling left and right while trying to take photos of Blanc Neige.

I think most people will agree with me that Koto is Koto so you can put them on the same level as Alter, GSC or Max Factory. One noticable flaw on this figure is her hair. There are some imperfect sculpt here and there. Regardless of the flaws, I still like this figure because I enjoy the Shinning Wind series a lot and Blanc Neige is my favorite girl in the series ^^.

I like her better without the cape ^^

I couldn’t feel my hand after like 30 mins. Wearing gloves would be a good idea next time ^^;;.

Emi Kizaki 1/8 PVC by Kotobukiya

Simple and elegant would be the best way to describe this recently released figure by Kotobukiya. Emi Kizaki is a character from Kurogane no Linebarrels. This figure is the first one to be released from Kurogane no Linebarrels amd there will be others coming along in the future, however, I am not planning to get the others ^^.

One thing that I really like from this figure is her natural/dynamic pose and expression. It looks like as if a gust of wind blows gently from the side. Her black shirt + skirt just makes her even more attractive in addition to holding a sword.

As for sculpt and painting, I only noticed very minor imperfections and it may be just a manufacture defect in my case since it is impossible to manufacture every figure exactly the same. Overall, Kotobukiya did an awesome job on this one and really live up to my expectation.

Caren Hortensia 1/8 PVC by Kotobukiya

My 2nd Caren Hortensia figure which I bought from Anime North 2008 back in May. The first one is made by Griffon Enterprise (check my entry for the other Caren Hortensia figure) while this one is made by Kotobukiya. It’s an old figure and originally released in September 2006. Hobby Link Japan has this figure in stock in case anyone is interested ^^.

I wish I know more about Caren aside from the obvious source (wiki) and other various anime site. I haven’t played the game so I don’t really know a lot about her and I don’t think I am going to play the game anytime soon ^^;; since it’s in Japanese.

For this photoshoot, I decided to use yellow background just because I feel like it lol and since Caren’s clothes are mostly black, the yellow background blends easily with black clothers (at least I think so ^^). After couple photoshoot sessions, I suddenly feel like doing outdoor photo shoot. It was cloudy when I did it but it didn’t really stop. The setting was on my house backyard which is unattended and makes a great place for outdoor photo shoot sessions.

This figure comes with a base but I decided not to use it.

I have nothing to complain regarding this; good sculpture and nice painting all around. I love details on her eyes ,although, the wooden base could have been better. I think the outdoor photo shoot came out better than the indoor ones. It seemed to come out little bit darker than I expected. What do you guys think ?
