Google Chrome First Impression

A new browser just established itself yesterday and joined the Browser war against other well known browser such as Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera and other browsers. Apparently Google has a lot of confindence in them and launched their own browser called Google Chrome on September 2nd, 2008. It’s still currently in Beta stage so a lot of bugs are to be expected, however, the future looks promising from user feedbacks that I read on various forums.

    Anyone is getting the new 3G iphone ? It’s coming on July 11th in 22 countries where Canada is one of them. Very exciting news for those who live in Canada since we (or I) have been longing for iPhone for so long since the US releases and we have to buy the jailbreak version which was going for $400 to $600

    The new 8G version is only $199 with 2 or 3 years contract which is pretty reasonable / cheap for a new phone. I probably am going to sign up with rogers and ditch my fido >.> if the data plan is really good. Full story can be read at endgadget and check out Rogers’ main page banner for those who live in Canada.

    Is iPhone in your buy list ? it sure is on mine ^^.

    Venus Versus Virus

    I had had rough days on the last couple days with my main PC which was infected by some virus and they messed up my internet connection or connection to the internet. I can play online game and download stuff just fine, however, browsing was a different story. It was painfully slow to load a page and sometimes it didn’t even finish loading a page so the page showed up weird.

  • Updated to Wordpress 2.5.1

    Bamboo Blade

    I finally updated to to the latest wordpress from 2.3.3 to 2.5.1 .The update went smoothly and I hope nothing weird is going to happen (keeping my finger crossed XD). All my plugins are working just fine and so does my template.

    The whole process took 3-4 hours due to a lot back up that needs to be done before hand and I have a lot of images which I need to copy from the hosting to my local. I followed the upgrade instruction thoroughly from wordpress.org as I don’t want to screw anything up.

    The new interface on the admin section is nice and also the ability to upload multiple images at once, however, when I tried it, it cut some part of image instead of resize so I had to use flexible-upload plugin.

    Rogers Bandwith Cap

    Just a little warning for those who use rogers and like to download a lot with torrents or other p2p, you probably got a letter saying about the new bandwidth overage charge. It says on the letter, $25 is the maximum charge however, I stumbled upon a post in NCIX forum where one of the forumer shows his Rogers bill. Rogers charged $616.50 for over usage >.>. I know in the letter says that $25 is the hard capped and can’t go more so make sure you check your bill right away after you got it so you gets charged more than $25, call them right away and bitch at them >.>

  • Xeon X3350 ^_^ Day 5

    I’ve been asking around in forum and read a bunch of overclocking guides to get my CPU at least 3.5 GHz. I increased my NB voltage , VTT voltage and Vcore to see if I can get more MHz from my CPU.It crashed when loading windows when I set FSB at 438×8 so I put it down to 430 and it loaded windows nicely. I am doing prime testing right now for stability and once it hits 24 hours, I am going to run folding smp client.

    Let pictures speak for themselves ^_^

  • Xeon X3350 ^_^ Day 4

    So my journey has continued to the 4th day of overclocking my x3350. I managed to boot up at 420 x 8 = 3360 MHz, however, I increased my Core Voltage to 1.232V and loosened my RAM timings to 5-5-5-18. In addition , I also got CPU-z validated :) and my core temperature @ 100% load is 56 55 56 55 C. I am getting near to 60 C ^^;; where I am going to stop.

    As usual I am going to run folding @ home smp client for my stress and let it run overnight.  You can check my cpu-z validation: http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=34050.

    Well as I was typing this blog entry, my PC crashed lol so I bumped up Core voltage to 1.25v. Hopefully it will be stable. I guess I will see next morning ^^;;.

  • Xeon X3350 ^_^ Day 3

    Here goes, Day 3 of my journey to overclock my Xeon x3350. At this I really hate my RAM -_-. Little piece of crap can’t overclock for shit. I tried couple settings as the following:

    • 450 x 8 @ 1.18vcore, 6-5-5-15 timings  @1.9v -> I got it POSTed but stucked afterward
    • 445 x 8 @ 1.18vcore, 6-5-5-15 timings  @1.9v -> Same thing, t POSTed but stucked.
    • 425 x8 @ 1.18vcore, 5-5-5-15 timings @ 1.9v -> no POST
    • 420 x8 @ 1.18vcore, 5-5-5-15 timings @ 1.9v -> no POST
    • 405 x8 @ 1.18vcore, 5-5-5-15 timings @ 1.9v -> it POSTed and booted to windows…. yay ? -_-;;

    So far so good, I can validate CPU-z http://valid.x86-secret.com/show_oc.php?id=339860 and running folding @ home SMP Client now for stress testing. I think I am going 5 MHz at a time for the FSB. Temperature wise, it increases by 1 to 2 degrees. Pretty decent I think ^^.

     I am going to let it run overnight and if there is no crash, I consider it stable then I can move on to 410 MHz FSB.

  • Xeon X3350 ^_^ Day 2

    Well…. not exactly a good day for me today. I got a ticket for speeding 24 km/h over the speed limit. I didn’t see the cop pointing his radar gun at me at all. He was nicely hidden >.>; at least now I know that I should be careful around that area.

    Anyways, I learned from a friend that running folding@home is a better way to test for stability. So even though your overclock is a prime stable, it does not mean that it won’t crash when you are running folding client. I am going to run it overnight and see my current overclock(400×8) is stable.

    On a side note, I messed around with my bios trying to get more from my CPU. I set the vcore to 1.2v with 450fsb x 8 multiplier. It posted but as soon as it started loading windows, it crashed (BSOD) and restarted /sigh. I tried to lower the timings on my ram from 4-4-4-15 to 5-5-5-15 with no luck then I reduce my FSB t0 420 and I still got BSOD.

    My ram was trying to run at 840 MHz while it’s only rated at 800 MHz. Even with slower timings, I still got BSOD when booting to windows.I would really hate it if I have to get a new ram so I can overclock more :S as I am kinda broke this month.I have couple more things to try before I decide to get a new ram >.>. I am going to try to run at cas 6 so I should be able to get more MHz from my ram and if I can get 900MHz, I would be so happy.

  • Xeon X3350 ^_^ Day 1

    Well, it’s been a year since I got my e4300 and it’s time for an upgrade :). It didn’t take me long to decide what CPU I was going to get. Originally, I was going to get Q9450 but stock is scarce so I went for Xeon X3350 which is basically the same as Q9450 but with lower voltage. I bought my X3350 from NCIX for less than $399 since I have a premier partner membership so I got a decent discount on x3350.

    It took a while for my processor to get to me since I was being cheap and chose a free shipping which costed me 2500 NCIX point. Nice eh ? ^_^. I got the notice of delivery from canada post yesterday and quickly run to a canada post depot to pick it up. I was really itching to install it right away but I had to postpone it until tonight because I had other things to do. For myX3350, I got L803A756 batch and S-Spec: SLAX2 for those who are wondering. Pics of batch number are as below ^^. (more…)
