Another Otaku’s blog about Anime, Figures, Games and Various Events

As an otaku, our biggest enemy that drills a big hole on our wallet from time to time is impulse buying + countless SAFS (Suddenly Acquired FigureS). I believe it has happened to us all especially during otaku related events, for example, anime conventions, a place where price is no longer an issue as I would call it ^^. We all are drooling over those anime merchandise and figures.

I started this new project to build another PC specifically used for storage/data only (Anime episodes, Mp3s, images, web development , etc) back on last October 2008 when one of my HDDs was crapping out ie dying. Since I have no way to recover my data if the HDDs fail, I went for Hardware RAID solution which is something I have never done before. For those who don’t know, aside from being an otaku, I am pretty much a PC Hardware geek.

Having Chii (Chobits) as your companion/lover may not be too far ahead as one man named Le Trung, a fellow Canadian living in Ontario, tries to fulfill his childhood dream by making a life size gynoid ( robot that looks like a human female). Le was greatly inspired and motivated after watching Chobits so on August 15, 2007, Project Aiko is officially started. Big thanks for my fellow ffxi gamer, Jackie, who told me about this.
My parents got me a new 24″ LCD Monitor for my bday back in October and it’s a BenQ V2400W. The nice thing about this LCD monitor is that it has a HDMI input and 2 DVI inputs which means, I can connect my ps3 to this monitor. My experience so far has been really great and so happy with this monitor ^^. More pictures under the cut ^^.

Credit goes to my friend who told me about this cool new toy that ’s just recently available for purchase in Japan. It’s basically a 3d hologram character that you interact and play around with it. ARis is sold for 9,800 Yen and for further info, check out its official website (It’s in Japanese though :S)

A new browser just established itself yesterday and joined the Browser war against other well known browser such as Firefox, Mozilla, Netscape, Internet Explorer, Safari, Opera and other browsers. Apparently Google has a lot of confindence in them and launched their own browser called Google Chrome on September 2nd, 2008. It’s still currently in Beta stage so a lot of bugs are to be expected, however, the future looks promising from user feedbacks that I read on various forums.

Anyone is getting the new 3G iphone ? It’s coming on July 11th in 22 countries where Canada is one of them. Very exciting news for those who live in Canada since we (or I) have been longing for iPhone for so long since the US releases and we have to buy the jailbreak version which was going for $400 to $600
The new 8G version is only $199 with 2 or 3 years contract which is pretty reasonable / cheap for a new phone. I probably am going to sign up with rogers and ditch my fido >.> if the data plan is really good. Full story can be read at endgadget and check out Rogers’ main page banner for those who live in Canada.
Is iPhone in your buy list ? it sure is on mine ^^.
I had had rough days on the last couple days with my main PC which was infected by some virus and they messed up my internet connection or connection to the internet. I can play online game and download stuff just fine, however, browsing was a different story. It was painfully slow to load a page and sometimes it didn’t even finish loading a page so the page showed up weird.
I finally updated to to the latest wordpress from 2.3.3 to 2.5.1 .The update went smoothly and I hope nothing weird is going to happen (keeping my finger crossed XD). All my plugins are working just fine and so does my template.
The whole process took 3-4 hours due to a lot back up that needs to be done before hand and I have a lot of images which I need to copy from the hosting to my local. I followed the upgrade instruction thoroughly from wordpress.org as I don’t want to screw anything up.
The new interface on the admin section is nice and also the ability to upload multiple images at once, however, when I tried it, it cut some part of image instead of resize so I had to use flexible-upload plugin.
Song of the day: Being by Kotoko
Just a little warning for those who use rogers and like to download a lot with torrents or other p2p, you probably got a letter saying about the new bandwidth overage charge. It says on the letter, $25 is the maximum charge however, I stumbled upon a post in NCIX forum where one of the forumer shows his Rogers bill. Rogers charged $616.50 for over usage >.>. I know in the letter says that $25 is the hard capped and can’t go more so make sure you check your bill right away after you got it so you gets charged more than $25, call them right away and bitch at them >.>
