Final Fantasy XIV Release Dates

Final Fantasy XIV Release Dates were announced yesterday. As the title stated, there are two release dates for PC and I can say that Square Enix is very smart on their marketing strategy. The first release date is on September 22, 2010 for collector edition and it has some additional perks or whatever you may call it. It will cost you $74.99.

By getting a collector edition, you will have an early access amd additional perks as below:

  • In-Game Item – Collector’s Edition preorders will include a reward code to receive an exclusive in-game item, the Onion Helm.*
  • Early Access– Play 8 days prior to the release of the Windows PC Standard Edition (timing of access subject to initial server capacity).
  • Behind the Scenes DVD – Get an insider look at the making of FINAL FANTASY XIV, with exclusive video content, interviews and more in this special documentary DVD.
  • Security Token – A FINAL FANTASY XIV–branded Security Token for use with your regular password.
  • Travel Journal – Record your travels in this beautifully bound journal filled with pages of never-before-seen concept art.
  • Right of Passage – Redeem a voucher to receive your fully-personalized Right of Passage Certificate, each stamped with a unique serial number.
  • Amano Cover – Special PC Collector’s Edition illustration by renowned artist Yoshitaka Amano.

Illustration by Yoshitaka Amano is probably more than worth it to spend extra $25 for the collector edition in my case. The standard edition costs $49.95 and it will be released on September 30, 2010. Both versions are available for pre-order at your local game stores. The collectors edition will include a code to obtain a rare helmet that reduces the penalty of paralyzed although it has not been confirmed what the penalty is. Whether it is the duration of paralyzed or effect of paralyzed or even both , nobody knows yet.

Meanwhile, the standard edition will include a code to obtain a goggles that increases the speed of skill growth and again nobody knows what it really means until he/she plays the game and actually uses the item.

Lalafell may look cute but nothing beats the coolness of Miqo’te (Read: Mithra in FFXI) with this cool goggles.

As with FFXI, the monthly subscription fee is $12.95 for the first character and $3 for each additional characters. Both editions will come with 30 days free subscription.

For those Final Fantasy XIII owners, you will be able to input the product code you received with the game to obtain the Ashura Arm Guard item as seen above. It looks like a pretty cool item and hope the stats are as good as it looks.

Beta just starts today and we are less than four months from the release date. Either I am little bit skeptical about the release date or Square-Enix employees work 24/7 to deliver the game.

    So I’m guessing there is a subscription fee for the PS3 users as well?

    I still remain skeptical about the game. It’s MMO and I’m not a big fan MMO quite honestly but on the other hand, it’s Final Fantasy and I’m a big fan of Final Fantasy is it equals out. :)

    I hope the fee will be part of the new PS Plus feature when it launches and maybe I might sign up. On the other hand, I have my fingers cross it will free. :)

      There will be a subscription but nothing has been announced yet.

      Trust me, everyone, especially those who plays FFXI including me, remains skeptical about how much time-consuming it will be. A lot of people quit FFXI due to time issues, thus, I am hoping this new FFXIV learning from their past mistake and create a better environment for casual gamers.

      In all honesty, the best thing about FFXI was storyline and cut scenes.I played both FFXI and WoW and WoW’s story line is nothing close to FFXI in term of awesomeness. I certainly hope that FFXIV can live up to my expectations regarding the storyline.

      I have this feeling that PS+ subscribers may get a really cheap subscription fee or even free but nobody knows yet since PS3 ver. won’t be out till March 2011 which is why I am getting the PC version for sure.
